The Best Miami Night Tours Compared: Bay, Streets or Trails
The Miami Night guided tours sold here split three ways: where the night happens, whether it is dark while you are out, and what you pay on the night on top of the fare. Most are boats on Biscayne Bay. The rest are buses and a van, farm trails, a salsa floor, a club, a pedal bike and a kayak on the river. This guide sets them side by side so you can choose in a few minutes.
Which Miami night tour is best for a first visit?
For most first evenings, Miami Aqua Tours' open-bar night cruise. It leaves the dock at Bayside, runs past the port, the cruise ships and Star Island with the bar open, and costs $50 a person. It scores 4.9 from 735 reviews, the best score here with a real number of reviews behind it.
It is sold to adults 21 and over. With children, or without a drink, take Fiesta's twilight cruise from the same mall at $25, or the Big Bus night tour.

Boat or bus?
The boat shows you the skyline; the bus shows you the streets. From the bay you see downtown and Brickell as one lit line of towers, with the causeways under them, and you pass the homes on Star Island, which no road reaches.
On the bus you cross the MacArthur Causeway, run along Ocean Drive's neon and pass Lincoln Road. That is South Beach, which no boat here reaches. The price is close: a seat on the bay costs $25 to $63.20, and the Big Bus night tour $36.
The boats pour or sell drinks, and several list a restroom on board. The bus has neither, and it does not stop. If you have one evening, choose the view you came for. The night boat tours and night city tours pages go deeper into each.
Open bar or pay as you go?
Only one shared cruise puts the drinks in the fare: the open-bar night cruise, at $50. The standard option pours champagne, wine, beer and tinto de verano; spirits come with the premium option. Some travellers found the standard bar short on spirits, which is what the premium option adds.
On the skyline cruise, the twilight cruise and the sunset cruise, a bar sells drinks on board, and the sunset cruise offers an unlimited open-bar upgrade at check-in. The true-crime cruise pours one drink with its bites. On the karaoke cruise, outside drinks are not allowed.
The open-bar cruise costs $20 more than the same operator's skyline cruise from the same dock. Weigh that gap against what you would spend at a bar on board.
A shared cruise or your own boat?
A shared cruise is a seat among other people, at a set time, for a set price. The private boat is the whole boat for your party, at the hour you choose, from $52 a person for two plus a $70 captain fee. You bring the drinks and the music.
It is the most-reviewed tour here, with 4,064 reviews at 4.9. The yacht goes further: 3 hours on a 50-foot yacht for up to 13, at $160 for the group before the crew at $100 an hour, a $100 marina fee and $100 fuel.
For a couple, the shared open-bar cruise costs less than either. For a group that wants its own evening, the private night boat tours page sets the fees side by side.
Is the Big Bus night tour worth it?
For downtown, the causeway and South Beach in one sitting, yes. Big Bus's open-top night tour leaves Bayside at 8pm with a live guide in English and runs 75 to 90 minutes for $36. It is the most-reviewed land tour here, with 2,030 reviews, but its score of 4.1 is lower than the boats'.
The complaints repeat: the stop is hard to find, the top deck is windy, and the bus does not stop. Check the stop on your ticket and arrive 15 minutes early. Watch the month too: from mid-June to mid-July the sun is still up at 8pm, so the start of your night tour is daylight.
Is a $25 twilight cruise worth it?
As an hour on the bay at the lowest fare here, yes, with your eyes open. Fiesta's twilight cruise leaves its booth at Pier 5 inside Bayside and runs about an hour past the port and Fisher Island as the light goes. Drinks are sold on board, and nothing is added on the night.
It scores 4.0 from 47 reviews. Some recent travellers found the sailing shorter than an hour and the route tight around the port. It takes strollers, which makes it the easiest cruise here for a family.
Is a night ATV ride worth the drive?
If you have seen the skyline and want something else, yes. The rides are on farm trails at the rural southern edge of Miami, so you need a car or a rideshare there and back. 305 Off Roading's glow ride gives you an hour on your own LED-lit quad for $100, and you come back muddy.
The park ride in the Redland looks cheaper and is not. Its fare of $15 is the park entrance, and the ride is $100 a person at the gate: $115 each, plus a $100 cash deposit per ATV. It needs a driver's licence and riders aged 10 to 70. The ATV night tours page compares them.
Which night tour suits children?
The Big Bus night tour takes wheelchairs and strollers, and Fiesta's twilight cruise takes strollers. At Mango's, the salsa room is open to all ages until 10pm, when the nightclub starts and the age limit becomes 21.
Leave the children out of the open-bar cruise, which its operator sells to adults 21 and over, and out of the club night and the pedal pub, which are 21 and over. At the Redland park no rider may be under 10, and on the glow ride no child under 3 may ride.
Which one for a date night?
The private boat, if you want the bay to yourselves. Pick the half hour before sunset, bring a bottle, and play your own music. For two it costs $174 with the captain fee.
If you would rather dance, the salsa night at Mango's. You get a table in the Mojito Room on Ocean Drive from 7:30pm, a bachata lesson at 8pm, a salsa lesson at 9:20pm, a mojito and bites, then the club from 10pm. It costs $89 each and scores 4.8.
Which one for a celebration?
For a group, the yacht: up to 13 aboard, LED lighting, a floating mat, a sound system and a bottle of champagne. Budget for the whole night: $160 plus $500 in crew, marina and fuel for 3 hours makes $660, or about $51 a head with 13 aboard.
For a birthday on a budget, the karaoke cruise gives you the microphones and a sound system for $49 a person, plus the $10 cash tip. The club night runs from a rooftop pre-party at 10:30pm to priority entry at the club. You make your own way there, and the dress code is strict.
Which one on a wet night?
Most run rain or shine. From June to October every month averages more than 7 inches of rain at Miami International, so pack for a shower. The panoramic bus has windows that close, and the van is enclosed. The top deck of the Big Bus is open to the weather.
If an operator cancels a boat or a bus for bad weather, you are offered a new date or a full refund. The salsa night and the club are indoors, so they carry on whatever the sky does.
Who should skip a night tour?
If you only want to see the lights, you may not need one. Bayfront Park is free and open until 11pm, and its fountain plays shows from 7pm. Ocean Drive's hotels are lit in neon and free to walk at any hour. The guide to what stays open late lists the rest.
Skip a fixed-time tour in June and July, too, if darkness is the point: the sun sets after 8pm. Book a later sailing, or a private boat at the hour you choose. The dark times, date by date show you which.
