Up to the Mojito Room on Ocean Drive

You meet in the Mojito Room, on the second floor inside Mango's Tropical Cafe at 900 Ocean Drive in South Beach. The room looks out over Ocean Drive. Mango's is one of the hotels and venues on the strip that runs from 5th to 15th Street, inside the Art Deco Historic District, so the walk there after dark passes the neon hotel fronts, with Lummus Park and the beach across the road.

Your ticket is on your phone. Bring a passport or ID card: you need it at the door, and again if you stay for the club. Arrive at 7:30pm, when your table is ready; Mango's restaurant serves dinner at the tables before the lessons if you want to eat there first. Directions from downtown and the other starts are on the meeting-point map.

Bachata at 8, salsa at 9:20

The first lesson, at 8pm, is beginner bachata, the easier of the two. Nobody needs a partner: the instructors rotate the room, so solo travellers and uneven groups fit in. At 9pm the mojito (or a mocktail) and three appetizers come to your table. At 9:20pm the beginner salsa lesson starts, and after it the room dances together until 10pm.

How many are in the room depends on the night. One traveller counted eight on a weekday and heard that a Friday can bring fifty. A weekday suits a first attempt; a Friday or Saturday is the party. Other ways to spend the evening beyond a tour are on what to do and see on a Miami night out.

The mojito, the bites and what you buy

One mojito or mocktail and three appetizers are in the fare, both served at 9pm. Anything else you eat or drink is bought at the venue, and tips are not included. If you are celebrating, you may bring party favours to decorate your table; birthdays, hen parties and anniversaries are the evenings this is built for.

Dress for a club, not the beach. Hats, sleeveless shirts and swimwear are not allowed, and the rule holds at 7:30pm as well as at midnight. Comfortable shoes you can turn in matter more than heels. What to pack for a night out that ends on a dance floor is on what to expect on the night.

After 10pm: the club is 21 and over

At 10pm the room becomes Mango's nightclub, and your ticket includes entry. There is a live band, colourful shows and DJs playing Latin, pop and open-format music. The club keeps going until 5am, so the evening can end whenever you like. From 10pm the venue is 21 and over, so anyone younger leaves with the end of the lessons.

Unlike a cruise, the season hardly matters here: you are indoors, and by 10pm it is dark in every month. What the light is like as you arrive on Ocean Drive does change:

Times are the U.S. Naval Observatory's for downtown Miami in 2026. From October to February you walk up Ocean Drive with the neon already on; from April to August it is still day. More on the seasons is in Miami weather at night.

Useful tip. Book a weekday for a first try at salsa, when the room is smaller and the instructors have time for you. Save the weekend for when you want the crowd, and read the visitor guide for getting back to your hotel late.
