What an ATV night tour in Miami is
It is a ride on your own four-wheeler along farm trails after dark, with lights on the quad
and a guide in front. You do it at a farm on the rural southern edge of Miami, not in the city,
so the skyline is not part of it. The dark and the mud are.
Redland ATV Rentals runs a guided 45-minute ride at a farm park in
the Redland, far south-west of downtown. 305 Off Roading runs an hour on its own farm, with LED
lights on the quads and glow sticks.
Both start with a safety briefing. Neither includes transport, so you drive or book a ride
there and back.
Why choose an ATV night tour
Trails, not streets
Every other night out here is on the bay or in the city. This is the one that takes you out
of it, onto dirt tracks through farmland in the dark. If you have seen the skyline already, it is
a different evening.
Your own quad
You steer. On the glow ride you get your own LED-lit quad, and two people may share one if
they weigh 300 lb or less together. At the park each rider drives, and you need a driver's
licence to do it.
Headlights and glow sticks
The quads carry lights, and the glow ride adds glow sticks. Travellers on the glow ride report
that on some nights a quad had one glow stick rather than a full set, so treat the glow as a bonus
and the ride as the point.
Mud
The glow ride runs on muddy trails, and you are asked to wear clothes and shoes you do not
mind getting dirty. You will come back muddy, which is most of the fun and all of the reason to
wear old shoes.
ATV night tour vs a boat
Most visitors choose between an evening on the water and an evening off the map. Here is how
they compare.
| ATV night tour | Night cruise on the bay |
|---|
| Where | Farm trails, far south-west | The bay, downtown |
| Who steers | You, on your own quad | A captain |
| Length | 45 minutes to an hour | One to three hours |
| Getting there | Car or rideshare, not included | A downtown dock |
| Rules | Age limits, a licence on one, weight limits | Few; some cruises are 21+ |
| You come back | Muddy | Dry |
| Fare | $100, or $115 at the park | $25 to $63.20 a seat |

A cruise is the easier evening: a short ride downtown and a drink on board. The ATV is the
bigger one, with a drive at each end, and you remember it for different reasons. See the
night boat tours if the bay wins.
What you get, and what you pay at the gate
- At the Redland park: the $15 fare is the park entrance. On arrival you
pay $100 a person for the ride and leave a $100 cash deposit per ATV, which you get back. The ride,
the briefing, a helmet, gas and pictures are then included.
- On the glow ride: the $100 fare covers the quad with LED lights, a helmet,
goggles and the training. Photos and videos cost $10, and a ski mask $10.
- On neither: transport, food or drinks. A late fee applies at the park after
20 minutes, so leave early.
Two riders at the park pay $230 plus the deposits. Our guide to what you pay on the night puts that next to every
other night out.

Planning an ATV night tour
Getting there. Both farms are on the rural southern edge of Miami. The park's
address works only with Uber, Google Maps and Waze, and the glow ride's ticket gives you the pin.
Plan your ride back before you set out.
Who can ride. At the park: aged 10 to 70, with a driver's licence, under 297 lb,
and not with back problems. On the glow ride, children under 3 cannot ride, and alcohol and drugs
are not allowed.
Cash. The park's $100 deposit per ATV is cash only, so take the notes with
you. You get it back after the ride.
What to wear. Closed shoes and clothes you do not mind ruining. Bring a layer
from December to February, when evening lows average 64°F to 63°F at the airport.
Is it dark? Book an evening slot after sunset: 5:32pm in December, 8:14pm
in June. The sunset and weather by month has the month you travel.
Who should choose something else
- If you do not drive. The park ride needs a driver's licence, and neither
ride includes transport. The night city tours pick you up downtown.
- If you have back problems, or you use a wheelchair. The park says its ride is
not suitable, and the trails are rough.
- If you want the city lit up. There is no skyline on a farm trail. Take a boat
on the bay instead.
- If you have one evening and no car. The drive south takes a slice of the
night. A cruise from Bayside leaves from the middle of downtown.
- If you are travelling with young children. Under-10s cannot ride at the
park. The twilight cruise from Bayside takes strollers.
