Is Bayside Marketplace open at night?

Yes: until 10pm Monday to Thursday, 11pm on Friday and Saturday and 9pm on Sunday, though each store and restaurant keeps its own hours. It is free to enter, at 401 Biscayne Blvd, with paid parking, two van-accessible spaces and free wheelchairs to borrow.

It matters at night because most downtown boats board there. Miami Aqua Tours lines up by the Ferris wheel, and Fiesta Cruises boards from its booth at Pier 5. Several operators share one dock area, so check the name on your ticket before you step aboard. The evening at the waterfront mall read covers it in full.

Is the observation wheel at Bayside open at night?

Skyviews Miami, the wheel on the waterfront at Bayside, is lit at night, and you see it from every cruise that leaves the mall. It stands over 200 feet tall, with 42 climate-controlled gondolas and one VIP gondola with a glass floor.

Its own site publishes the hours and ticket prices, which change, so check them there before you plan around them. The small-group van tour includes a ride of about 50 minutes, with pickup from downtown hotels.

Can you see the Wynwood murals after dark?

The murals on the streets, yes; the museum, no. The Wynwood Walls, the open-air street art museum at 2516 NW 2nd Ave, is ticketed and open daily from 10:30am to 6:30pm. More than 130 artists from 30 countries have painted there since 2009.

After dark, the murals on the streets around it are what you see. The pedal pub rides those streets, and the panoramic bus lists Wynwood among its stops. Check the time on your booking if you want to go inside before closing.

Is Ocean Drive worth it at night?

Yes, for the neon. The hotels along Ocean Drive between 5th and 15th Streets face the beach across Lummus Park and are lit in neon after dark. They sit in the Art Deco Historic District, listed on 14 May 1979, with about 960 historic buildings, most built between the Depression and the early 1940s.

The street is free to walk at any hour. The Big Bus night tour drives along it without stopping, and the salsa night at Mango's is at 900 Ocean Dr, in the middle of it. The the lit landmarks one by one say which tour passes which building.

Is the park by Bayside open at night?

Yes, until 11pm every day, and it is free. Bayfront Park covers 32 acres of lawns and paths on the bay at 301 Biscayne Blvd, next to Bayside.

Its fountain plays water, light and music shows at 7pm, 8pm, 8:30pm and 9:30pm from Sunday to Thursday, and adds a 10:30pm show on Friday and Saturday. It turns off at 10pm, or 11pm at the weekend. It is a free show a short walk from the Bayside docks, so it fits before or after a cruise.

What does Brickell look like after dark?

A wall of lit towers south of the Miami River, best seen from the water. The sunset cruise from Venetian Marina runs past the Brickell skyline as the lights come on. The Big Bus night tour ends its loop at Brickell City Centre before it returns to Bayside.

The panoramic bus lists downtown and Brickell among its stops. The private boat starts on the Miami River, in the no-wake zone under the city's bridges, before it opens onto the bay.

For the lowest view of all, the LED kayak paddles down the Miami River through downtown toward the bay, so the towers rise straight above you. You will get wet, and the guide sets the pace. Its refund terms conflict, so read them before you pay.

What can you only see from the water?

Star Island and its neighbours. Star Island, finished in 1922 by the Army Corps of Engineers, is private, and its only road leaves the MacArthur Causeway. From a boat you pass the lit homes and their docks.

PortMiami, the largest passenger port in the world, sits on Dodge, Lummus and Sam's Islands at the mouth of the Miami River. There is no public access, but the berthed cruise ships are lit along the channel, and the open-bar and twilight cruises pass them. The night boat tours page compares every boat.

What can you see from the causeways?

The skyline from the middle of the bay, without a boat. The MacArthur Causeway, six lanes from downtown to South Beach, opened in 1920 and was renamed for General MacArthur in 1942. It runs past the port and the road onto Star Island.

The Big Bus night tour crosses it, and the van tour stops on it for about 10 minutes so you can look back at the lit towers. The Venetian Causeway to the north is the older route, on the line of the 1913 Collins Bridge, with two bascule bridges. The open-bar cruise runs along it toward Star Island.

Which tours pass the lit landmarks?

Each one covers a different set, so match the tour to the places you want. The Big Bus night tour passes the bayfront, crosses the MacArthur Causeway, runs along Ocean Drive and Lincoln Road, and returns by Brickell. It does not stop, so you see all of it from your seat.

The van tour gives you the wheel at Bayside, South Pointe Park and a causeway stop for the skyline, with hotel pickup. The panoramic bus lists downtown and Brickell, Miami Beach, Wynwood and North Miami Beach among its stops. The boats give you what no road reaches: Star Island, the port and Fisher Island from the water. The every way to spend a Miami night page sets out the rest.

What is free after dark?

More than you might expect. The park by Bayside and its fountain, the walk along Bayside's waterfront, Ocean Drive's neon and the murals on Wynwood's streets cost nothing. The MacArthur Causeway is free to cross, while the Venetian Causeway has a toll plaza.

What you pay for is a view you cannot reach on foot: the bay from a boat, the city from the wheel, or a guide who tells you what you are seeing.

Which attractions close early?

The Wynwood museum, at 6:30pm, so plan it for the afternoon. On a Sunday the mall closes at 9pm, so eat before a late cruise rather than after it. The park stays open until 11pm every day.

The boats and the buses run into the evening, and the clubs far later. Some night tours print their start time only on the booking, so look at yours before you plan dinner.

Can you do it all without a tour?

Downtown and the beach, yes. You can walk Bayside and the park, ride the wheel, and cross to Ocean Drive by rideshare or on the S or C bus. What you cannot do on your own is get out on the bay. For that you need a boat, and the guide to night tour prices shows what each costs in all.

The farm trails and the club's priority entry need a booking too. Everything else in this guide you can do with a good pair of shoes.

If you do book, choose the tour for the part you cannot reach, and walk the rest before or after it. A twilight cruise from Bayside, then the fountain and a late dinner on the waterfront, makes a full evening for one fare.
